Responsibilities Experienced mechanical engineer responsible for all aspects of mechanical design, analysis and evaluation of components and the disk drive system. Design using CAD and FEA, and perform dynamic analysis of the assemblies and components to confirm functionality, and verify correlate with simulations. Develop actuator and HSA designs for disk drives products. Will plan and execute evaluations, analyze and report results, refine and optimize the designs, perform failure analysis, and provide solutions to finalize the designs. Will work closely with the other mechanical and servo engineers to solve performance and process issues, manufacturing engineering, procurement, and other cross-functional teams in the development organization. Will also work with suppliers to determine capabilities and supplier processes, and work with internal manufacturing to produce high volume, high yeild, cost effective, and reliable designs. Qualifications MS in Mechanical Engineering with minimum of 5 years of experience in designing for high volume production. Solid fundamental mechanical engineering skills in the areas of mechanical design, mechanical FEA, Matlab, data analysis, component and drive level characterization, and experience working with vibration control and dynamic systems. Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical testing. Should be familiar with test instrumentaion such as LDVs, structural dynamic analyzers, and accelerometers. Have worked with suppliers and familiar with manufacturing processes such as die casting, injection molding, stamping, machining and other high volume manufacturing methods. Demonstrate ability in creative problem solving and innovation. Strong team player, effective communication skills, and highly motivated. |

Responsibilities An experienced mechanical designer for disk drive development using 3D CAD to support layout of new product designs from conceptual phase to completion of final design along with documentation and specifications. Responsibilities include ability to architect the drive laying out components and assemblies while considering spacing and specification requirements, design components and sub-assemblies, define requirements for proper fit and assembly involving critical datums, perform tolerance analyses for critical assemblies, select component materials for function and manufacturability, determine component manufacturing methods for high volvume production, and provide feedback to engineers for refinement of the design and functionality. He will also work with engineers from various functional areas supporting the product development and qualification. He will also have ownership of some components working with suppliers on the design, specifications, DFM, and testing to qualify components. The designer will provide drawing and EC support.
Qualifications Associate’s degree (AS) with 10-15 years of experience in design and drafting. Extensive 3D CAD experience for mechanical design especially in disk drive development. Can provide 3D layouts in early development including component and sub-assembly designs, and manufacturing methods given constraints and requirements of the product. Knowledge of part and assembly datum methods to design for high volume manufacturing. Have worked with suppliers on component design and qualification, and is familiar with manufacturing processes such as die casting, injection molding, stamping, machining and other high volume manufacturing methods. Familiar with materials and can determine best selection to meet desgin and manufacturing requirements. Knowledge of ANSI and/or ISO drafting standards, as well as GD&T. Can review drawings for accuracy, proper notation, dimensioning, and tolerancing. Experience with engineering change and EC release processes. Must have good communication skills, highly motivated, able to present and discuss design concepts and recommendations, can work independently, and demonstrate innovative design skills and ability for creative problem solving. |
