Signal Processing/ Transition Noise Characterization

space
- Introduction -
•
Next-generation detectors are expected to incorporate features designed to take advantage of signal-dependent noise.
•
We are currently exploring many unconventional media designs with significantly different noise behavior (AFC, Perpendicular)
•
This work attempts to explore ways of characterizing the noise process in a way that gives useful information to channel design teams
•
The basic approach is to treat noise as having a stationary part characterized by an autocorrelation function and a transition noise part characterized by a covariance function (2D).
–
treat transition noise as independent of other transitions and independent of stationary noise
