Tools for Installation

You may need one or more of the following items to install your Hitachi Deskstar drive:

1. Phillips-head screwdriver.
2. Flat-blade screwdriver.
3. Small needle-nose pliers.
4. System manual.
5. Operating system startup CD or diskette.

How to Prepare for Installation

1. Turn off the computer system.
2. Unplug the system.
3. Discharge static electricity.
4. Remove the cover as specified by the system manual.
5. Find the mounting bracket inside the system where you will install the Deskstar hard disk drive.
6. If you are replacing a hard drive, remove the drive from the system. A typical tower design is shown below.
