How to Configure Jumper Settings on Your Drive

1. Remove the drive from the ESD bag.
2. Find and record the model, part and serial numbers.
3. As with the other steps that involve handling the drive, make sure you discharge any static electricity from yourself and your clothing as previously described.
4. If the new Deskstar drive will be the only hard disk drive cabled inside your system, jumper the drive (as shown in bold at the top left above) to Device 0 (master). If adding the Hitachi drive as an additional hard disk drive, jumper the Hitachi drive as Device 1 (slave).

   Note: Set the jumpers as “cable select” if your computer system manufacturer requires this setting (refer to your computer system manual if unsure).
