Troubleshooting SCSI drive problems

Does FDISK or Disk Administrator (NT only) see the drive? Yes - See information below. No - Skip to "Are the jumpers and cables connected correctly?".

Yes -- If FDISK or Disk Administrator see's the drive: You may need to partition and format the drive.  Also, depending on your system BIOS, you may need to use a program such as Disk Manager to use the full capacity of the drive.   The quick installation guide provides instructions on how to install and configure the drive. The quick installation guides are also available for viewing online from the Hard Disk Drive Support page by selecting one of the links under Quick installation guides to locate the guide for your drive.

How to check

FDISK is a utility used to partition and format disk drives.  The FDISK program can be found on your operating system startup diskette or in the operating system directory (DOS, WIN95, etc.) on your C: drive.

If FDISK does not recognize the drive you will see a 'No disk drive found' error message.  Use option 4 to Display the active partition or option 5 to select a different drive when the system has more than one drive.  You can also use the /S command line parameter with FDISK to display the drives on the system, for example A:>FDISK /S.

Notes: 

1. FDISK cannot be used with the NTFS file system (Windows NT) and the HPFS file system (OS/2).  However, it can be used with the FAT16 and FAT32 file systems for Windows 95/98, and FAT16 for Windows NT. FDISK and FDISKPM can be used with FAT16 for OS/2.
2. The Disk Administrator tool provides the FDISK function for Windows NT. Select Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Disk Administrator to run the tool.
