| Installing ATA-100 drives under Windows 2000 |
Without Service Pack 1, UDMA-5 drives use PIO-4 (16 MB/s) mode. With Service
Pack 1, and after manually updating (through Device Manager) the IDE controller
driver with the new c:\winnt\inf\mshdc.inf, UDMA-5 drives run at
UDMA-2 (33) transfer rates. Note that the driver update does not happen
automatically when Service Pack 1 is installed, although the requisite files
are transferred automatically. |
Drives that report a maximum transfer mode of UDMA-4, such as Deskstar 22GXP
and 25GP, operate at UDMA-4 interface transfer rates by default (with or
without Service Pack 1). |

Recommended solution: Install the latest Intel ATA driver
available at: http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/storagedrivers/ultraATA/
After this new driver is installed, UDMA-5 capable drives will transfer
data at UDMA-5 speeds. |
