| Hitachi GST drives have consistently demonstrated
progressively lower seek times through the use of advanced actuator
designs, improved/lighter materials and shorter stroke lengths.
Average seek times below 4 ms to 3.4 ms are available in Hitachi
GST 15,000 RPM drives with a disk diameter of 70 mm. The sum
of seek and lower latency time (due to faster rotation rates)
has resulted in accessing times less than 6 milliseconds, with
indications that these times could be reduced further in the
near future. The magnetic hard disk drive is rapidly becoming
a high performance device, and surprisingly, disk drive performance
is increasing concurrently with capacity while price per megabyte
is decreasing correspondingly. |
