STORAGE LEADERS TO DEMONSTRATE FIRST 4G FIBRE CHANNEL
MULTI-VENDOR INTEROPERABILITY SAN AT SNW FALL 2004
- LSI Logic joined by server, switch and HDD manufacturers to showcase
industry’s first multi-vendor Fibre Channel SAN interoperability solution
- 800 MB/s per port data transfer rates highlighted in support of bandwidth-intensive
applications
Storage Networking World, Orlando, FL – October 26, 2004 – Keeping
pace with the storage industry’s evolution to 4Gb/s Fibre Channel adoption,
LSI Logic (NYSE: LSI) and leading server, switch and disk drive manufacturers
will collaborate on product interoperability demonstrations at Storage Networking
World in Orlando Oct. 25 – 28. The demonstrations will take place at
the LSI Logic booth #P6 beginning Tuesday.
"As enterprises deploy tiered storage architectures, they want their SAN
infrastructure providers to deliver solutions that are cost effective, non
disruptive, and able to meet future needs," said Richard Villars, Vice President
of Storage Systems research at IDC. "The demonstration of interoperable
4Gb Fibre Channel partners is critical to IT managers that want assurance
that emerging 4 Gb FC products work together."
Joining with LSI Logic will be disk drive manufacturers, Hitachi and Seagate,
fabric switches from Brocade and Broadcom, and HP with a ProLiant DL585 server
using AMD Opteron processors.
“Demonstrating interoperability among these critical system components is
the first step toward a smooth 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel migration,” said Doug
Pickford, Director Product Strategy and Planning, Hitachi Global Storage
Technologies. “Disk drives running at 4Gb/s speeds will help our customers
improve system performance in their most demanding enterprise storage environments.”
The interoperability demonstration will feature LSI Logic's dual-port 4Gb
Fibre Channel LSI7204XP-LC HBA with Fusion-MPT™ architecture installed in
an HP ProLiant DL585 server with AMD Opteron processors. The Adapter is connected
to a to a 4Gb SAN that includes 4Gb fabric switches from Brocade and Broadcom
(BCM98440) and 4Gb hard disk drives from Seagate and Hitachi. Running
Windows 2003 Enterprise Server operating system, the demonstration also showcases
the management capabilities of LSI Logic's MyStorage™ software for monitoring
these new 4Gb Fibre Channel infrastructures.
In addition to interoperability, the demonstration will highlight the full-duplex
capabilities of LSI Logic's HBAs, as they deliver data transfer rates of
800 MB/s per port, showcasing the ability of 4Gb/s technology to meet the
needs of today's bandwidth-intensive applications.
"LSI Logic has a long history in providing leading-edge Fibre Channel technology,
and as 4Gb emerges we plan to continue in this tradition," said Bill Wuertz,
vice president for the LSI Logic Storage Standard Products division.
"As users look to take advantage of the performance benefits of 4Gb technology,
they can be assured that interoperability will not be an issue with LSI Logic
products, as we are demonstrating here at SNW."
The 4Gb/s HBAs leverage the LSI Logic LSIFC949X Fibre Channel controller
and feature a 64 bit/133MHz PCI-X bus interface. Supporting 1-2-4GB/s
operations, these HBAs are ideal for storage clustering and deliver optimal
performance for SAN applications. LSI Logic's Fibre Channel HBAs are
bundled with the company's MyStorage™ software, which provides HBA monitoring,
load balancing, and path failover protection, and allows IT managers to control
and configure any LSI Logic HBA in their storage area network in just a few
mouse clicks.
