When the hard disk drive was created in 1956, few could have imagined the impact it would have on our daily lives. IBM invented the first hard disk drive -- the RAMAC -- 50 years ago, and Hitachi Global Storage Technologies continues that heritage of innovation into the next 50 years. After shipping more than two billion hard disk drives, the industry celebrates its Golden Anniversary in 2006.

A 50-year Fact
The first 2.5" hard drive for notebook PCs was introduced in 1991 and stored 63MB of data. Today's 2.5" products hold up to 160GB and are 60 times more resistant to shock.
