SoftJoys Selects Hitachi One-Terabyte Hard Drive for its High-Capacity Data Storage Servers

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Sept. 18, 2007 – Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) today announced that SoftJoys – a provider of computing server equipment and services in Russia – is using Hitachi GST’s one terabyte* hard drives in its high-capacity data storage servers. The Hitachi Deskstar™ 7K1000 hard drive will be used by SoftJoys to develop and launch data storage servers with a total capacity of 24 terabytes. The data storage servers are intended for data streaming applications.

Hitachi’s one-terabyte products ensure the necessary performance and reliability demanded by high-capacity servers. The Hitachi Deskstar 3.5-inch, 7200 RPM Parallel-ATA/Serial-ATA hard drives are built using the industry’s most reliable perpendicular magnetic recording technology.

Hitachi’s terabyte hard drives are available in three different versions for differing applications. The Deskstar 7K1000, for PC applications, is available in 1TB and 750GB capacities. An enterprise version -- the Ultrastar A7K1000 -- features 1TB, 750GB and 500GB capacities. Finally, the CinemaStar version, intended for digital video recorders, is available with 1TB and 750GB capacities.

Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 drives are available in Russia through the company’s official distributors ELKO and ASBIS. The retail price varies from $379 to $390 depending on the model.

* One GB is equal to one billion bytes, and one TB equals 1,000 GB (one trillion bytes) when referring to hard drive capacity. Accessible capacity may be less.
