Thur 03 May, 2007
SAN JOSE, Calif. – May 2, 2007 – Hitachi Global Storage Technologies ( Hitachi ) today announced that it has begun shipping the world’s first one-terabyte capacity single internal hard drive to retail customers in the United Kingdom . The Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive began shipping in March 2007 with inventories reaching critical mass in April 2007. PC World is the first retailer in the UK to make the one-terabyte hard drive available to customers. The Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive is available for purchase at all PC World stores across the UK and online at www.pcworld.co.uk for £249.99.
Announced at CES 2007, the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive delivers superior performance and reliability, as well as leadership capacity, to meet the needs of consumers who want to create, share and store their digital information in ever increasing volume.
“At PC World, we always strive to bring the latest innovations in technology to our customers and are excited to be the first in the UK to offer the world’s first one-terabyte internal hard drive,” said Bryan Magrath, Commercial Director of PC World. “ Hitachi ’s one-terabyte capacity achievement is an important milestone that will undoubtedly feed our customers’ demands for greater amounts of storage for their digital photos, music tracks and movies.”
The Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive delivers ultra-high capacity, which is well-suited for high-performance, gaming and media center PCs and external storage devices. It is built on the industry’s most reliable perpendicular magnetic recording technology, allowing Hitachi to extend capacity beyond that available in current products. The hard drive features a 3.0Gb/s Serial-ATA (SATA) interface and large 32 MB data buffer to provide the performance required for high-end PC applications.
“We’ve met the commitment we made in January to deliver the world’s highest-capacity hard drive within the first quarter of 2007. With the delivery to PC World, United Kingdom consumers can take advantage of this storage capacity milestone as they fulfill the desire to create and share their digital content,” said Nick Kyriacou, Director, EMEA for Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. “The Deskstar 7K1000 delivers high capacity and high performance and is ideally suited to meet the requirements of PC enthusiasts.”
