With Excellent Performance Characteristics, Deskstar 7K1000 Hard Drive Earns Gold Editor’s Choice Award
SAN JOSE, Calif. – May 9, 2007 – Following a series of reviews performed by AnandTech, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi) today announced that the one-terabyte Deskstar™ 7K1000 hard drive (HDD) earned the Web site’s top honor: the Gold Editor’s Choice award. Citing excellent write performance and sustained data transfer rates, among other performance metrics, AnandTech concluded the Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive was “the best 7200 RPM drive we have tested to date.”
AnandTech, a leading source for hardware reviews and industry news conducted a series of reviews of the Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive including the single hard drive in a competitive benchmark and two one-terabyte HDDs in a RAID configuration. In AnandTech’s tests, the Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive delivered unmatched performance across a number of industry-standard benchmarks and found the drive to be one of the quietest they had ever tested.
Specifically, in the PCMark05 benchmark, the Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive scored better than the Web site’s previous top performer and reviewers noted that Hitachi’s drive was “a worthy adversary” to faster RPM drives. AnandTech concluded the review series by stating, “For these reasons, we award the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 our Gold Editor’s Choice award and highly recommend the purchase of this drive if you are currently looking for a high-capacity drive with performance to match.”
“We are honored to receive AnandTech Gold Editor’s Choice award for our one-terabyte hard drive. Once again, the drive has proved to be superior in performance and capacity across industry benchmarks,” said Jose Antelo, vice president, marketing and strategy, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. “Throughout the development of our one-terabyte drive, we channeled our resources to ensure we effectively maximized capacity, performance and reliability, knowing full well we would have to answer to high-end PC and enterprise users who increasingly demand more space to create, share and store their digital content.”
Delivered to retail customers at the end of March 2007, the Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive is designed for desktop computers, media-center PCs, gaming machines, digital video recorders, personal storage and other applications requiring ultra-high storage capacities. It is built on the industry’s most reliable perpendicular magnetic recording technology, allowing Hitachi to extend capacity beyond that available in current 3.5-inch hard drive products. Hitachi 's one-terabyte hard drive features a 3.0Gb/s Serial-ATA (SATA) interface and large 32 MB data buffer to provide the performance required for these high-end PC applications.
