Hitachi Bolsters Hard Drive Distribution Network in Thailand
Fri 08 June, 2007

BANGKOK, Thailand, June 5, 2007 – Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi) today announced it has added ASYS Computer Co., Ltd. as a new distribution partner in Thailand. ASYS, a subsidiary of SVOA Public Co., Ltd, will distribute Hitachi's full range of hard drive products within Thailand servicing local systems integrators, OEMs and resellers.

As the leading IT components distributor in Thailand, the company has a strong network and resources to help position Hitachi for growth in the country. ASYS' parent company, SVOA, is the number-one local PC manufacturer in Thailand, and its service and support capability, including Swap-on-Site service in the Bangkok area and drop service at nine IT Clinic centers around Thailand, will bolster Hitachi's ability to provide in-country support for its customers. ASYS will join Hitachi's existing distribution partner, Acecom, in distributing Hitachi products in Thailand.

"Hitachi is poised for rapid growth in Southeast Asia and our ability to leverage our partners' expertise is critical to our success. By extending our Thai distribution network with ASYS, we can continue to take advantage of the robust demand for hard drives in the consumer, IT and enterprise segments," said Robert Chu, vice president, Asia Pacific, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. "SVOA and ASYS are well respected in Thailand and they have a sound strategy that's aligned with our plans for the Thai market."

Thailand plays a significant role in Hitachi's global growth strategy. Hitachi's manufacturing facility in Prachinburi, Thailand is a key mega-manufacturing site for the company—with suppliers, component manufacturing and final assembly co-located near the site. The facility manufactures a large portion of the company's award-winning 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch hard disk drives for notebook and desktop PC applications. With the close proximity of our major manufacturing centers in the Philippines and China, in addition to Prachinburi, Hitachi is able to maintain high product availability to Thailand and the entire Asia Pacific region.

"Hitachi is already a major player in the Thai IT market. Adding Hitachi to our portfolio of products helps us fulfill our mission to provide high-performance and high-quality product to our customers," said Mr. Sompon Aketerajit, chairman of ASYS Computer Co., Ltd, and director of SVOA Public Co., Ltd. "Hitachi has a reputation for performance and reliability, and with our extensive network, we believe we can help support Hitachi's growth strategy."
