Hammer Signs European Deal with Hitachi GST
Tues 22 Sept, 2009

Resellers to benefit from expanded enterprise-class drive range

Basingstoke, UK -- 22 September 2009 -- Dedicated storage distributor, Hammer, has announced a European distribution deal with hard disk drive (HDD) manufacturing giant, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST).

The agreement allows Hammer’s customers to have access to Hitachi’s full line of Ultrastar hard drives, ranging from 15K and 10K RPM Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and Fiber Channel (FC) hard drives to the industry’s first, enterprise-class 2TB, 7200-RPM Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive. New to the family line-up, the new 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar A7K2000 offers performance, capacity and low power, making it ideal for data warehousing, disk-to-disk backup, cloud computing and massive scale-out storage implementations where storage density, GB-per-watt and cost-per-GB are critical parameters.

Nick Powling, Disk Business Development Manager at Hammer said, “Hammer is continually looking for ways to enhance our product offerings, and add more value and storage options for customers. Adding Hitachi’s enterprise drives to the Hammer range gives our customers full access to a reliable and proven family of drives for greater flexibility when designing or upgrading their enterprise storage environments.”Paul Matravers, sales director for storage products at Hammer, said, “This appointment with Hitachi further bolsters Hammer’s enterprise disk drive offering, and enhances Hammer’s ongoing position at the forefront of the storage industry.”

“Hitachi GST offers one of the broadest ranges of enterprise hard drives in the world to suit almost every aspect of storage in the data centre. These drives include premium, high-performance 15K RPM drives for mission-critical 24x7 applications, and enterprise-class 7200 RPM 2TB drives, for high-capacity nearline environments, ” said Steve Pereira, Vice President of Europe, Middle East and Africa, Hitachi GST. “We look forward to working with Hammer in providing their customers with proven Hitachi Ultrastar drives, which will help contribute to easier integration, simplified product qualifications and improved total cost of ownership.”
