On 19 February, 2004, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies submitted to the City of San Jose, California an application for an Amendment to the General Plan (GPA), specific to the property at 5600 Cottle Road, San Jose. This application was the beginning of the GPA process, and indicated to the city that Hitachi GST proposed changes to the zoning of the site from industrial-only use to a mix of industrial, residential and commercial uses.
On June 21, 2005, the City Council of the City of San Jose unanimously approved Hitachi GST’s application for a General Plan Amendment and Planned Development Zoning for the property at 5600 Cottle Road to allow for the redevelopment of Hitachi GST facilities and the development of a mixed-use transit village.
On November 17, 2005, Hitachi GST, along with the Master Plan Developer Signature Properties, submitted an application for a Master Planned Development Permit and Tentative Map to the City of San Jose. This application was the first in a series of development permit phases. The initial phase allowed Hitachi GST to start the campus consolidation process and begin the public realm infrastructure improvements.
In an ongoing effort to provide information and facilitate community input, Hitachi GST will maintain this Web site during the permitting process. In addition to an overview of the approved project, other information available on this Web site includes a fact sheet and links to published media articles related to the General Plan Amendment and Planned Development Zoning, as well as a comprehensive Q&A section related to the project.
